Belgium remains one of the many European countries aiming to attract academically talented students by offering fully funded scholarships for masters and doctoral programs.

Most master’s programs last 2 years while doctoral programs last about 3-4 years. A large number of Belgian higher education institutions are known to provide high quality education and allow international students to study without IELTS or TOEFL.

This article outlines some of the fully funded scholarships in Belgium.

VLIR-UOS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

VLIR-UOS offers 29 scholarships annually to international students from Africa, Asia and Latin America for training and master’s programs. Scholarship recipients will study at the University of Flanders Flemish. The VLIR-UOS Scholarship Program is also accepting International Training Program (ITP) applications.

MASTER PROGRAM JOINT ERASMUS MUNDUS

This is one of the most prestigious scholarships, fully funded by the European Union for various Masters and PhD study programs in Europe.
The scholarship covers living expenses (€1100-€1200 per month), tuition fees, visa fees, travel expenses and student insurance. International students from all countries are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree to be eligible for this scholarship. It is not necessary to have work experience before applying for this scholarship. Students with low CGPA scores are encouraged to apply. Scholarship winners will study a master’s degree in 1-2 years in Belgium and the host country.

REDUCED ARES SCHOLARSHIP

The ARES Belgium Scholarship offers international students the opportunity to study bachelors, masters and continuing education at the best Belgian universities.
More than 130 scholarships are awarded for master’s and bachelor’s programs. 70 scholarships awarded for continuing education programs or internships.

FLANDERS GOVERNMENT MASTER MIND SCHOLARSHIP

The Flemish government usually awards 30 scholarships per year to international students from all countries to study a master’s program in Flanders and Brussels.

Dr. GLOBAL MINDS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM AT KU LEUVEN

The KU Leuven Global Minds PhD Scholarship Program selects outstanding candidates from developing countries to apply for a scholarship in their doctoral program. Recipients of this scholarship spend 24 months studying at KU Leuven and 24 months studying at their home institution. This is called the “sandwich system”. Therefore, doctoral students are co-sponsored by their home institution and KU Leuven.
