Gyakie Wins Headies Best West African Artiste, Ahead Of Angelique Kidjo.

Ghanaian afrobeats/afro fusion singer Gyakie has won the award for Best West African Artiste at Nigeria’s 15th Headies Awards.

The sensational Gyakie won stiff competition from Angelique Kidjo (Benin), Amaarae (Ghana), KiDi (Ghana), Aya Nakamura (Mali), and Nelson Freitas (Cape Verde) to grab the prestigious award, which was organized over the weekend at the COBB Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta, USA.

She rose to fame in August 2020 when her “Forever” song from her five-track EP, titled “Seed” lead charts in Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria.
Gyakie was esteemed much in Nigeria following the success of the ‘Forever’ remix with Omah Lay.

She continually has been on a run of luck and her increasing influence on the music scene in Africa is appealing as she was recently presented with a double Platinum Certification Plaque for her breakthrough single “Forever” by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) meaning, over 40,000 units of the single were sold in the South African Market.

Not quite long ago, she released another project tittled, My Diary EP which has songs such as, ‘Something’ and ‘Flames’ featuring Davido, which are making waves internationally.

Headies Awards is the biggest and most anticipated music awards show in Nigeria and the Best West African Artist category is for artists of West African descent with the most prominent achievements and impact across Africa.

The event was hosted by Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro and Hollywood Actor Anthony Andersen, with live performances from Adekunle Gold, Ladipoe, Tiwa Savage, Joeboy, Flavour and others.

The Afrobeats star Wizkid took home most of the awards. The singer won five awards including Best Afrobeat Album (Made in Lagos) and Album of the year (Made in Lagos-Deluxe Edition).

His global hit single ‘Essence’ featuring Tems, won the Best Collaboration, Best R&B Single and Song of the Year awards.

Self-proclaimed African Giant Burna Boy also received the Best Male Artiste and Best African Artist of the Year awards whiles Davido won the Digital Artist of the Year and Humanitarian Award of the year.
